Nicola Jones

Nicola writes for stage, screen and radio.  She is currently writing a play for Behind Bars (24 November 2016 at Birmingham Rep) about prison reform.  Nicola’s work has been staged at venues including the Pleasance Dome at the Edinburgh Fringe (Pentabus Theatre), the theatre tent at Nozstock, and regional theatres including The Swan Theatre, Worcester; The Courtyard Centre for the Arts, Hereford; and Theatre Absolute, Coventry (as part of Theatre Exchange). Recent projects include ‘A Foot in The Door’ at the Arts Theatre in the West End (September 2015), as well as being one of the writers invited to take part in the Stephen Joseph Theatre’s 60th anniversary celebrations in Scarborough.

Her radio plays have been produced on BBC Radio 3, Radio 4 and Radio 4 Extra, with ‘The Daily Mail’ describing her writing as being ‘as taut as the skin of a drum’ (Scorched, Radio 4). Angels in Disguise, her episode of the horror and suspense series The Man in Black’ with Mark Gatiss is regularly repeated on Radio 4 Extra.

As a Red Planet Prize finalist, she received on-going mentoring with Tony Jordan’s Red Planet Pictures, and her television script Patient Choice was one of the BBC Writersroom ‘Sharps’ competition winners (judged by playwright Jack Thorne). Her original TV drama Strawberry Fields about migrant fruit pickers was showcased at BBC TV.

Her work with BOLDtext includes Dark Matters (Selfies); Nothing To Hide (The Russell Brand Effect – The Morning After); and The Trip (Sunstroke).

Nicola is currently writing a supernatural feature film script.
