BOLDtext Playwrights’ latest show, GEM OF A PLACE, is welcoming a community cast to support our production with a dash of visual/physical theatre. This is the first time we’ve worked with a community cast but we’re looking forward to co-creating some theatrical moments which will complement the micro-plays from BOLDtext writers. We’d like these fleeting moments to be eye-catching and thought-provoking but also great fun – it all depends on what our community cast come up with!
GEM OF A PLACE will be a theatrical journey around Birmingham’s beloved Jewellery Quarter, taking you beyond the shopfronts, down its side streets, and into some of its most secret places. Along the way, our audience will experience six dramatic stories, each illuminating a unique aspect of the area.
Our community cast will have fun co-creating and performing some unexpected moments of theatre to add sparkle to the show. We’ll share more information about our plans on Wednesday 20th July 7pm at Birmingham Repertory Theatre (access via Stage Door round the back).
After that, we’ll be meeting on a weekday evening at a venue near the Jewellery Quarter to develop and refine those theatrical moments together.
Alice Chambers (Associate Director at Birmingham Rep) will be leading the sessions, with support from BOLDtext playwrights Liz John & Julia Wright.
The dress rehearsal takes place during the day of 8th Sept. Show days are 9/10/11th & 16/17/18th Sept 2022 with three performances per day at 11.30am, 2pm & 5pm.

Everyone welcome!
