Happy New Month

I love New Year – any excuse for a party – though it could do with a new theme tune.  Auld Lang Syne is a bit of dirge and nobody knows the words. And I’m not too fond of the fireworks. Or the hangovers.

But I love New Year resolutions. I love that feeling of a fresh start. Out with the old, in with the new. I love the idea of leaving the old messy year behind me – along with all the things that went wrong and all the mistakes I made…

A new year stretches ahead, pure and untouched – like a fresh fall of snow. I like setting off like a new adventurer – a new improved version of me – full of promises and good intentions.

Of course it doesn’t take long for the snowmen to turn to slush, and the snow to melt away revealing a landscape that looks rather like last year’s… Ah well, it was fun while it lasted.

Perhaps the answer is to have New Year more often. Perhaps every month? Why not? Or even sooner? Think of the parties.

Yes, Happy New Week everybody. In fact, Happy New Day! Live it with a shining heart. Stephen Jackson
